FABULOUS RESTAURANTS
There are plenty of choices when it comes to dining out in Playa del Carmen and the Rivera Maya. There are Mexican Grills, Mayan cuisine, Seafood, and local Taco and Kitchens, Argentinean Grills, Thai food, Sushi, Swedish Mat (food) , Mediterranean , Italian and Lebanese Cuisine, Crepe houses, Cuban fare, Chinese and of course fast food chains, coffee houses, cafes, wraps, sandwiches, and pizza joints.
There is a food and place to eat for everyone here in Playa. Be adventurous, step off the beaten track, try something new and different.
La Fragata
Avenida 1 and Calle 26Located just across the street this quaint local hangout is superb. Beatrice the owner/operator, will always make you feel welcome. Coming from a family of well respected chefs Beatrice is always striving to give you fresh ingredients, simply cooked in a clean environment. Try her shrimp tacos…fabulous! Check out her specials of the day, they always include one choice of two (2) appetizers, (2) main course (2) desserts and a fresh squeezed fruit drink for a very nominal price. Or check out Friday night “French Cuisine” specials…..never a let down!
Come early (before 2) the place is always packed…Babes Noodle and Bar
Avenida 5 between Calles 28 and 30Located on Quinta (5) Avenida, not only is the food great and fresh, it’s a great place to sit, relax and people watch. The menu is assorted and ranges from fabulous curries to Swedish meatballs and tasty soups, as well they are known for their famous “Mango Margarita”.
Mamitas Beach
Located on the beach and 28th
Buckets of beer, burgers, and sandwiches all brought to you while lying on a beautiful beach bed. This section of beach has become the "seen and be seen" for trendy hipsters to hang out.
Pomarola
Calle Flamingo’s Entre 40 y 42
Italian food at it’s finest, they make fresh bread and Italian sausage daily, you can pick it up to take home. Eating in is a pleasure of the senses, you have to decide to have either a wonderful fresh pasta dish (my favourite is the 4 cheese fusilli) steak or their fabulous wood fired pizza.
Restaurante Cactus
Av 30 y Calle 20
A nice mix of different dishes, this owner/operator restaurant has a nice family feeling, they have a wide selection of various International dishes from Italy, Mexico, Spain and France. This is a nice clean, friendly restaurant that charges a minimal amount for wonderful quality food.
Chicago Don Jose (affectionately known as Chicago’s)
Calle 6 between Av 5 and 10
Steaks, Seafood, Ribs, Coconut Shrimp…all to die for…this restaurant is a North American no brainer…fabulous, fabulous, fabulous…what more can I say.
Los AguaChiles
Av 34 y Calle 25 on the corner
A wonderful little restaurant off the beaten track, our favourites include the ceviche and the shrimp tacos. They bring homemade sauces to your table with chips, try them all. Don’t miss this special place. And the service is very good!
Yaxche
Calle 8 between 5 and 10 Av
The only traditional Mayan restaurant in Playa del Carmen. Upscale and beautiful it is a must try when visiting the area. Try the jicama cucumber salad, or the orange pork cooked in a banana leaf for a true culinary treat. A variety of Vegetarian dishes are also available.
